The Cavaliers dropped the first two games of the series on the road at TD Garden, where the Celtics have gone a perfect 9-0 straight up and against the spread this postseason.

NBA point spread: The Cavaliers opened as five-point favorites; the total is at 205, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. Line updates and matchup report.

Why the Celtics Can Cover the Spread

While Boston has been outstanding at home, the team also found a way to win on the road with a 101-98 overtime victory against the Philadelphia 76ers in the last round. That win put the Celtics up 3-0 on the 76ers, something they are hoping to do in Cleveland as well.

Boston’s defense has definitely been the difference in the first two games, limiting the opposition to an average of 88.5 points, with LeBron James responsible for nearly a third of his team’s offense. As long as the Celtics can continue to hold the other Cavaliers in check, they will have a great shot to advance.

Why the Cavaliers Can Cover the Spread

Home court will be critical to Cleveland’s chances of moving on, and the crowd at Quicken Loans Arena will be counted on to play a key role.

The Cavaliers have won five straight home games since they suffered a 98-80 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of their first-round series. Their last victory there was also their best, a 128-93 rout of the top-seeded Toronto Raptors as five-point favorites to complete the sweep, with all five starters scoring in double figures. James will need a similar effort from his teammates in this spot.

Smart Betting Pick

While Cleveland is riding a five-game winning streak at home, the three-time defending Eastern Conference champion has gone just 1-7 ATS despite going 6-2 SU in their past eight at Quicken Loans Arena dating back to the regular season. Bettors should expect a similar result, with the Cavaliers winning but failing to cover the spread again.

NBA Betting Trends

Boston is 7-1 ATS in its past eight games.

Boston is 16-8 ATS in its past 24 games on the road.

Cleveland is 1-7 ATS in its past eight games at home.

There’s a certain magic about the Par 3 Contest leading up to the Masters, as golfing stars remind us that if they were playing on average courses, their scores would be absolutely ridiculous. The event is played with golfers’ significant others and children dressed as caddies, and even though the event is competitive, it’s mostly a way for golfers to take a load off before the stressful weekend ahead of them.

2018’s Par 3 Contest lived up to that billing. Tom Watson won the contest in a day that was full of great moments. The 68-year-old 1977 and 1981 Masters champion won the Par 3 Contest back in 1982, adding to his total on Wednesday. There is a jinx that surrounds the winner, as the Par 3 winner has never gone on to win the Masters. Watson won’t be competing this year — his 43rd and final Masters appearance came in 2016 — so at least someone else isn’t losing the opportunity to get a win if the curse is real.

Watson is now the oldest golfer to ever win the contest, surpassing 62-year-old Sam Snead, who won it in 1974. Watson ended up birdying six of the nine holes, sneaking past 27-year-old Tommy Fleetwood and 26-year-old Thomas Pieters by a stroke. However, while Watson’s win was the performance of the day, the highlight of the day came when 15-year-old Gary Nicklaus — one of Jack Nicklaus’ 22 grandchildren — knocked home the first ace of his life. Gary stepped away from caddying for his 78-year-old grandfather to knock down his first ace, in a moment that you couldn’t script any better. Jack told CBS Sports that the shot was his “No. 1” moment at Augusta — not bad for a six-time winner of golf’s biggest major.

Another nail-biting moment came when Tony Finau rolled his ankle celebrating an ace of his own, and then popped it back into place and walked it off. He’s still expected to compete, although who knows what this will do to his odds moving forward. Justin Thomas also gave a young patron a moment he’ll never forget when he let him handle his tap-in for him before giving him a signed ball as a thank you. As always, it was a good, light introduction to the Masters. From here on out, however, things are about to get a lot more serious. And a whole lot more competitive.

Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers

Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers

Thanks in large part to a 30-point effort from Goran Dragic, the Miami Heat were able to squeak by the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night with a 92-91 victory. During his post-game media availability, Lakers point guard Isaiah Thomas was asked to comment on the go-ahead fader he missed with time expiring.

“Yeah, I thought it was going in,” Thomas told ClutchPointsafter Friday night’s loss. “It was just short. I got a good look and I got the separation that I wanted, it just fell short.”

Kyle Kuzma knocked down a three-pointer to give the Lakers a 91-90 lead late in the fourth quarter. However, Dragic answered with a 10-foot floater in the lane, which gave the Heat a one-point advantage.

Lakers head coach Luke Walton revealed that the team’s final play was actually designed for Julius Randle, who led Los Angeles in scoring with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

“The guy defending (Lonzo Ball) did a good job of leaving and denying Julius,” coach Walton said. “We couldn’t get the ball in. Isaiah got a clean look though. We can’t complain about that. I think he was probably a little cold. He had been on the bench for a while but if you get an open look for someone like IT at the end like that, you live with that.”

Thomas, now 29 years of age, logged 27 minutes against the Heat on Friday night, scoring five points on 1-9 shooting from the field (0-2 from beyond the arc), three assists and two rebounds.

The Lakers — now the third-ranked team in the Pacific Division standings with a 31-38 overall record — will be back in action on Monday, as they’re scheduled to kick off a four-game road trip with a matchup against the Indiana Pacers. Tip-off inside Bankers Life Fieldhouse is set for 7:00 p.m. EST.

Loyola Chicago vs Kansas State

Loyola vs Kansas State Live stream. Elite Eight Preview: Will Loyola-Chicago’s Run Continue? Who Has the Edge in Duke-Kansas. In Elite 8, Kansas State vs. Loyola-Chicago is not about five-star recruits.

Loyola Chicago vs Kansas State live streamred

For an Elite Eight game — and yes, go ahead and wrap your mind around either Loyola-Chicago or Kansas State heading to the Final Four — there’s a pretty stunning lack of talent if you’re measuring it by the typical way we talk about these things. The McDonald’s All-American crew is gone; the future lottery picks are mostly out of the NCAA tournament and onto bigger and better.

But the numbers in front of the names don’t matter at this point. The winners will head to the Final Four, and the losers will go home. “So much is matchups, and there’s so many good teams not playing this weekend,” said Kansas State coach Bruce Weber, whose ninth-seeded team will face No. 11 seed Loyola-Chicago on Saturday in Atlanta. “That’s what I kept emphasizing to our guys. I don’t care how we got here, we’re playing.
